“…Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.” (Luke 12/48)
Liturgical Life Committee
This committee is a consultative group of parishioners and parish staff who assist the pastor in the coordination, enrichment, and evaluation of the various dimensions of liturgical life at Queen of the Universe Church. The committee strives to foster a vibrant, prayerful spirit among our parishioners in the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy and paraliturgical devotions such as rosary, novena, adoration and benediction etc.
Altar Servers
Altar Servers assist the celebrant during the celebration of Mass and other liturgical events. Both boys and girls can begin their training and preparation in the spring and at the end of fourth grade. They participate in special training to begin their specific services.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
These parishioners assist the priest in the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass, to residents of Statesman nursing home, at Aria hospital monthly, and/or to parishioners homebound who can no longer attend Mass on Sunday’s. They participate in special training to begin their specific services. Each person is approved by the pastor and then appointed by the Archbishop of Philadelphia for a three-year term.
Lectors
Lectors, or Readers of the Word, assist at Mass by proclaiming the Word of God during the Liturgy of the Word. In the absence of a deacon, a Lector also reads the General Intercessions. They participate in special training to begin their specific services.
Liturgical Environment Committee
This subcommittee of the Liturgical Life Committee designs and implements plans to decorate the church during the various liturgical seasons and for special feast days and sacramental events celebrated in the church.
Liturgical Linens and Church Cleaners
This team coordinates the cleaning of the church and chapel on a rotation basis through the year, as well as the weekly cleaning and care of vestments, vessels and altar linens.
Liturgical Greeters
Liturgical Greeters, as individuals or as a family, serve the parish by warmly welcoming all who come to our church for various liturgical celebrations. The presence of greeters before and after Mass reminds parishioners and visitors of the ever-present invitation to fellowship at Queen of the Universe Church. They participate in special training to begin their specific services.
Liturgical Music Ministry
Since Vatican II, singing has been made an integral part of the celebration of Mass. New members in our parish Music Ministry lead the congregation in musical prayer. Ministries include the need for instrumentalists, cantors, adult and youth choirs that provide the parish with sacred and diverse musical prayer experiences for all ages.
Mass Sacristans
Men and women, ages 16 and older, act at the direction of the pastor and head sacristan for the set-up of vessels and the sanctuary prior to and after Mass. The sacristans greet, sign-in, fill in absent liturgical and review positions of liturgical ministers at each Mass. Sacristans also receive training for the set-up for baptisms, marriages, funerals and other para-liturgical events throughout the year.
Ushers
Men and women, ages 16 and older, help to welcome all who come to Queen of the Universe Church. They assist in seating the assembly before the Liturgy and aid in special emergency situations. Ushers collect monetary offering at Mass, facilitate the presentation of the gifts, and guide the flow of the congregation during the distribution of Holy Communion. They participate in special training to begin their specific services.
Presentation of the Gifts
Men, women and families are welcome to present the gifts of bread and wine during the Mass. Special Mass times and occasions are considered for each family and would be coordinated and provided so that many families can participate at the liturgy.
